It is with great sadness that we share the news of Jim’s passing from cancer. He is leaving behind an impressive and meaningful legacy and will be missed dearly. Jim came to the District with over two decades of experience in forest policy, forest health and monitoring, management planning, and communications, which included 17 years with the Oregon Department of Forestry. As a Portland resident, Jim was familiar with the variety of soil and water resource issues facing District landowners, whether they own farms, forests, or gardens. After obtaining a Forestry degree at Humboldt State University, he earned a masters in Forest Economics at the University of Idaho, and a doctorate in Forest Management and Economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
