We Need You For Our Budget Committee

Are you interested in protecting the natural spaces in your community?

Would you like a say in how tax dollars are spent?
Do you want to give back to your community?

If the answer is yes, then we need you!

West Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking community members to serve on the Budget Committee.  As a committee member, your input will help shape local conservation efforts.

What budget committee members do:

  • Lend your unique perspective to the budget approval process.
  • Help allocate District funds to best fulfill our mission and protect the habitat in our community.
  • Review the prepared proposed budget message.
  • Attend budget committee meetings (virtual or in person), generally in April-June.

Who should apply to be an appointed citizen Budget Committee member:

  • People who have an interest in taking care of natural spaces like forests and streams, as well as preserving soil, water quality, and plants on built spaces like gardens and farms.
  • People who identify as Black, Indigenous, or other people of color or who otherwise identify as members of underserved, marginalized or oppressed communities.
  • Constituents who live in the District’s service area—budget committee members must be registered voters in our district.

We seek diverse perspectives of those with diversity in age (18+), ability, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and/or veteran status.

Additional information:

  • Appointed citizen Budget Committee members serve a voluntary three-year term.
  • All Budget Committee members must reside and be registered to vote within the District’s service area.
  • No conservation experience or expertise is required.
  • Applications are open now and will remain open until January 15, 2024.
