Living on the Water

cover of Living on Water GuidebookMultnomah County is home to a number of floating home communities, offering a living experience with a unique set of benefits and challenges.

In partnership with Scappoose Bay Watershed Council, we’ve developed a guide to provide floating home residents and managers of floating home marinas with information on effective and practical methods to protect property and minimize environmental impacts of living on the water.

This guide was produced collaboratively by several local organizations, marina managers, owners, and residents, with funding provided by West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District. It was developed in response to interest expressed by members of the floating home community. This interest followed outreach by the West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District starting in 2013 and gained traction as Scappoose Bay Watershed Council became an active partner. This is the second version of this guide, newly updated in 2020. It is meant to be a collaborative work in progress. We appreciate the feedback we received on the first version (2016), which proved popular.
