This summer, we’re looking for Ash and Oak Folk, a new type of community scientist, to learn to identify threatened oak and ash trees and make reports of healthy and sick ones to the proper scientific sources. If you’d love a mix of scavenger hunt, nature walk, and science project, and PRIZES, this is the event for you.
We’re hosting four workshops to get as many people as possible to participate in learning about the Oregon Oak and Oregon Ash trees and the invasive EAB and MOB bugs that are threatening them in our region. Then, participants will learn how to track trees on the iNaturalist app, and make reports of sick trees on OregonInvasivesHotline.org.
Prizes
To encourage people to show up for local trees, the following businesses have graciously provided items to provide as raffles and giveaways. One participant from each workshop will win a gift card to a local native plant nursery: SymbiOp Garden Shop (two $25 gift cards), Bloomsday Natives ($25 gift card), or Sauvie Island Natives ($20 gift card). You must attend the workshop to win.
After that, there are even more chances to win prizes! Participants who log sightings of oak and ash on their iNaturalist app will be entered to win. Prizes were donated from Topaz Farms (2 tickets to 8/6 Reading Party), Sweet Delilah Farm (gift card for workshop participation or bouquet, up to $120 value), Wildcraft Studio School ($50 gift card), Plumper Pumpkin Patch (entry pass for four), as well as donated by the four plant shops listed above. More details will be given at the events regarding how to win. Thanks so much to those local businesses for support!

We recommend participants bring a water bottle, use sun protection, and wear walking shoes, and a mobile device with the iNaturalist app installed, if you can. Click a date to register.
